MAJOR FIELDS OF INTEREST:
- Fisheries research on stuarine, marine and continental waters,
(under agreement with the Government Body = INAPE).
- Fish handling on board and on shore. Fish transport (from
catches or live fish).
- Fish processing in Pilot Plant and in Fishery Plants: Chilled,
frozen, salted, dryed, marinated, smoked, etc.
- Acuaculture (catfish, carps, ornamental fish, oysters, frogs,
etc.). Fish pathology.
- Fish Biology and Icthiology: squids, crabs, prawns, white fish,
small pellagic, tuna, sword fish.
- Marine Mammals pathology and clinics.
- Seafood research&development: Traditional seafoods (frozen,
salted, smoked, silaged, canned) and new fish products for the
industry of Uruguay: breaded, marinated, minced analogs. Current
primary and secondary packaging, vaacum packaging, etc.
- Seafood Quality: Fish inspection, G.M.P., SSOP and HACCP
application to the fishery industry. Commercial seafood quality.
Marketing.
- Advisory services: Microbilogical and Chemical
laboratories.Quality control. Fisheries.
- Training on SSOP and HACCP application to the fishery industry;
fisheries research; acuaculture, all at university students level
undergraduated) and at professional level (postgraduated).
PRESENT PROGRAMMES:
Frozen minced products, frozen
breaded portions, marinated, smoked and salted fish development
(under agreeement with the fishery industry and under main suppport
of the Interamerican Development Bank, IDB, and the Japan
International Cooperation Agency, JICA). Frogs and fish culture
(Interamerican Development Bank). Inland artesanal fisheries
support (PROBIDES, FIDA).
WORKING FACILITIES:
- Pilot Plant (600 sq.mts.) with
freezing chamber and air blast tunnel; multiplate freezer, ice
machine, vaacum packing device, drying tunnel, srpay dryer, mincer
machine, ovens,
- Laboratories: Fish Biology and Icthiology, Fish and frogs
culture ponds, Chemistry, Microbiology, Quality control, Test
kitchen, etc.
- Library: Magazines, books, Internet, etc. ASFA Partners of
Uruguay
- Conference room, teaching staff meeting room
REGULAR TRAINING PROGRAMMES (Spanish Language):
- Fish Inspection & Technology (undergraduate &
specialization): frecuency twice yearly; duration from 4 to 8
months.
- Seafood products technology (undergraduate &
specialization): frecuency once yearly; duration from 4 to 8
month.
- HACCP Training (postgraduate): frecuency 1-2 times/year;
duration 1 month.
- Acuaculture (postgraduate): frecuency 1-2 times/year; duration
1 month.
PUBLICATIONS: Institute of Fisheries Research Bulletin (from 1986 to present).
